pray for my alma

March 18, 2009

I just wanted to put it out there that a number of us alums of Thomas More are praying a novena for the school beginning on March 19th. Anyone and everyone, please join in. From the Alumni Facebook group:

“We could start on the feast of St. Joseph ( March 19) and do three Hail Mary’s or Our Father’s or -yay- both, if you have the time. Tell other alums, friends of TMC and convince your spouse, children, parents, friends, anyone you can think of who is holy enough–haha– to join us and we will ask that prudence, justice, temperence, (I’ll just throw in fortitude–or it’d feel left out.) and charity will be served in the current situation. Who is in??”

I hope this is going well. My only experiance with a novena was with the current candidate for Atlantic City’s mayor during our senior year. I think after visiting the facebook group this is the only course of action for helping our Alma Mater, and a very beautiful one at that.

The Novena to Thomas More that Mr Sysesky posted on the alumni facebook page is really beautiful. From last night’s prayer this seemed appropriate for our intentions for TMC:

Through your prayers and intercession, obtain for me and mine the grace of final perseverance and protection from sudden and unprovided death …

Glorious St. Thomas More, I beg you to take up my cause, confident that you will advocate for me before God’s Throne with the same zeal and diligence that marked your career on earth. If it be in accord with God’s will, obtain for me the favor I seek, namely _______.

    Fourth Day

Dear St. Thomas More, in your earthly life, you were a brilliant lawyer and a just and compassionate judge. You attended to the smallest details of your legal duties with the greatest care, and you were unflagging in your pursuit of justice tempered by mercy. Through your prayers and intercession, obtain for me the grace to overcome every temptation to laxity, arrogance, and rash judgment in my (legal) duties. Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be… Glorious St. Thomas More…

    Fifth Day
